what would you make with this?

mango moon viscose

This is 150g of mango moon viscose; I received it in the Knitters Treasure Swap. It is kind of stiff but I love the blend. I have never ever knit with Viscose and I dont even know where it comes from. Please educate me. I was thinking of a money bag. My  family has a habit of saving up coins and then cashing them in. The yarn is too stiff for gloves or socks. I would like suggestions. Thanks in advance.

  1. Viscose is a lot like Rayon, it is made from wood pulp and is hand washable but please air dry.
It does soften up very well once washed. It was made to be a cheaper version of silk during the 40’s and has stuck around since.
It is strong, so making a money purse out of it would be great, maybe a miser bag would be in order.

  2. Gorgeous! I made a crochet hat out of approximately 115 yards of DK viscose yarn. I don’t know the grams on that, though.

  3. I don’t really have any suggestions as to what to knit with it but I love it. The colors are great.

  4. What about a skinny diagonal or multidirectional scarf? I bet once it softens up that yarn would have a nice drape. Plus the diagonal pattern could be cool with that variegation.

(Found your blog on Ravelry through the threadkillers group, so I’m stopping by to say hi.)

  5. very pretty yarn… I would stash it until something “perfect” came up. But that is how I run.

    I also tagged you.

  6. I had 3 skeins of that yarn and made my Mango Moon Bag. (Look for me on Ravelry – “labpugglechi” and look under my projects). I absolutely love the bag I made. It’s made of women’s sarongs that are recycled.

  7. Something stiff is great for crochet. You could crochet a little money pot with a slot in it to put the coins inside, and a bottom that comes off to get the change when you need it. (or not, so that when it is full you can cut it open…it generally stops people from borrowing from it)

    • i have never seen such an item. do you have a pattern?

      • I haven’t seen such an item in crochet before, this idea is just out of my head!!
I don’t see any reason why you can’t crochet a firm money pot like kid’s piggy banks, and just make a slot for money.

I have got a crochet pattern for a small pot, perhaps you could modify it from there….you can download it from here:

        http://erssie.blogspot.com/2009/04/more-crochet-i-experimented-little-more.html

Depends if you need specific patterns to work to or whether you could adapt this to make two joined pots, with a slot for money.

However, perhaps I should make a money pot, write the pattern, then let you have a copy,…but much later in the year.

  8. Gosh, thats lovely yarn.
